At first, Susan Hassmiller, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) senior advisor for Nursing, was uncomfortable with the idea that the product of her task — to direct a commission at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) on the Future of Nursing — had been likened to the Flexner Report, a 1910 study that drastically changed the face of medical education in the United States and Canada.
