The depth and breadth of academic opportunities at the GW School of Nursing reflect the changing nature of the field and the increasing diversity of its student body. Composed of several Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) options, the Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) the Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.), multiple post-master’s certificates, and extensive distance-based learning programs, GW SON offers opportunities for nurses in all stages of their careers, and in all corners of the world.
GW SON prides itself on its students, who not only succeed in the classroom but also thrive in the real world post-graduation. Through the school’s streamlined admissions process, prospective students are able to demonstrate both their past performance and their future potential for success. Although each program within GW SON has distinct requirements and unique student profiles, all programs value students with clear commitments to their community, to leadership, and to patient care. Above all, GW SON values a diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and goals, creating a student body that reflects the diversity of the nursing workforce.
The GW SON curricula stress the integration of research and nursing practice with a marked emphasis on solving real-world problems that promote strong leadership skills in our graduates. Each course, taught by experienced and dedicated faculty, is carefully designed to equip students with a skill set critical in the nursing profession. While some classroom work is necessary, students are frequently taught in simulated real-life environments, where they receive hands-on training and practice.
