This international clinical for BSN students provides a unique immersion experience in community-based health care. It aims to provide a powerful, life-changing experience while affording students the opportunity to leave behind something of value—education of local people. The School of Nursing works collaboratively with OmniMed to provide basic health-related services such as blood pressure screening and health education activities. In partnership with OmniMed, most time is spent training and maintaining VHTs. Students also construct protected water sources with local villagers and build indoor cookstoves to reduce indoor air pollution, a major source of pneumonia. OmniMed takes an academic approach, having completed a randomized controlled trial on the efficacy of their work. With expertise aligned with shared vision and goals, we expect a highly successful community health experience for students and faculty alike.
