Strategic Plan 2014-2018

Having successfully achieved our initial business plan and in conjunction with the university strategic planning process, the School of Nursing engaged in a collective strategic visioning and planning process.

As part of this, we crafted new mission and vision statements for the school. These provided an inspirational platform for the creation of the School of Nursing strategic plan for 2014-2018, and shape and guide our discussions and implementation of the plan.

The School of Nursing strategic visioning and planning was informed by an environmental scan and an assessment of how changes in our local community, nation, and world will affect the school in the years to come. Also, we engaged the university’s strategic goals and the four strategic themes put forward by the university to unite activities across the entire university. These themes are:

➢ Innovation through cross-disciplinary collaboration
➢ Globalization of educational and research programs
➢ Expansion of programs that focus on governance and policy in the public and private sectors
➢ Emphasis on infusing ideas of citizenship and leadership into everything we do

Informed by the above and building on the school’s strengths, faculty and leadership interests, and identified opportunities—we collectively charted a vision for the school’s future and this strategic plan to further position the School of Nursing as a leader worldwide.

The School of Nursing strategic plan has four priority areas:

➢ Education
➢ Policy
➢ Research
➢ Service

For each priority area, we identified an overarching strategic goal supported by objectives, actions, timelines, and measures.

The School of Nursing Strategic Plan is assertive yet achievable. It aligns with and supports the university strategic plan. The school’s plan is not a static document, it continues to evolve as new ideas, opportunities, and challenges emerge. It guides recruitment priorities, budgetary and operations planning and decisions, and fundraising initiatives.

We are confident this plan will contribute to the achievement of the university’s goals, and expect our strategic approach will move the School of Nursing forward toward its vision of driving innovation and improvement in health care worldwide.
