Simulation Initiatives
Overview of the GW Nursing Simulation Initiatives from GW School of Nursing on Vimeo.
In response to the tremendous needs of health care organizations, academic institutions and simulation professionals to assess and enhance their simulation center operations, educate instructors, extend hospital-based simulation programs and develop simulation operations leaders, we offer a curated portfolio of simulation programs and consulting services. These programs and services are offered through The GW Nursing Simulation Initiatives and were created by Dr. Pamela Jeffries, who developed the NLN/Jeffries Simulation Theory.
Purpose
- Cultivate evidenced-based simulation programs
- Educate instructors
- Advance future simulation leaders
- Improve participant, patient and system outcomes

Immersions
- Best Practices for Simulation Technicians/Specialists
-
Description:
Learn best practices in using simulation technology. Engage in activities on simulation pedagogy, operating systems, network hardware, the functionality of simulation equipment, operations, troubleshooting and moulage. - Best Practices in Teaching Simulation and Learning Pedagogy
-
Description:
Learn best practices in using simulation pedagogy and integrating simulations into the curriculum. Engage in activities on how to create, implement and evaluate simulation scenarios. Immersion incorporates the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice and Dr. Pamela Jeffries’ NLN/Jeffries Simulation Theory. - Best Practices for Directors and Coordinators of Simulation Centers
-
Description:
Learn best practices to build, lead and sustain a simulation program. Immersion focuses on evaluation and strategic planning with an emphasis on budget alignment to goals and resources. Highlights include the selection of equipment and technology to meet outcomes and operationalizing a simulation plan.

- Debriefing the Simulation Experience
-
Description:
This is an interactive workshop starting with theory and standards of debriefing. Principles of debriefing will be applied to simulation experiences using theory-based debriefing methods. Evaluation of debriefing competence and the use of debriefing in off-campus clinical and classroom will be discussed. - Curriculum Integration of Simulation
-
Description:
This interactive workshop emphasizes the essential steps for strategically embedding simulation into a curriculum. The support of executives, adequate resources (fiscal, material and human) and dedicated, knowledgeable simulation champions will be discussed. The learner will begin the process to develop a curriculum map for integration of simulation based on institutional curriculum frameworks and blueprints. - Evaluation Across the NLN/Jeffries Simulation Theory
-
Description:
This interactive workshop introduces the simulation educator to evaluation tools used to assess the design of the simulation, facilitator evaluation and learner performance during simulation experiences. Emphasis is placed on the development of outcome criteria for a simulation experience. Elements of formative, summative and high-stakes evaluation are highlighted. - Interprofessional Education in Simulation
