Admitted Students

Congratulations! We’re excited to have you at the GW School of Nursing. Now that you’ve been admitted, you need to activate your GW email address and NetID which you will need in order to register for classes.

Student Requirements

As students of the university, we expect you to follow the guidelines and policies around conduct, academic integrity and student responsibilities. Each of our degree programs has unique course requirements.

Virtual Orientation for Online Students

This orientation highlights some of the important resources you need to be a successful online student at GW.

Claim your GWid

GWid is your student identity number given to you at the time you applied. If you already know your GWid, proceed to Step 2. Otherwise, follow these steps to retrieve your GWid:

  1. Visit the GWid website and select Retrieve your GWid now!

  2. Agree to the Terms of Use.

  3. Follow the retrieval instructions for SSN + Date of Birth.

  4. Your GWid will appear on the page.

  5. Write your GWid down and keep it in a safe place.

Change Your Default GWid PIN

If you submitted your deposit online, you will have already changed your PIN and can therefore skip this step.

  1. Log into the GWeb Information System and enter your GWid in the "User ID" field.

  2. Enter your default PIN (MMDDYY of your birthday) and log in.

  3. Change your PIN by going to the Personal Information Menu.

  4. You will use your GWid and PIN to register for classes.

Claim Your NetID

With your GWid, you can claim your NetID. Your NetID allows you to log in to myGW, a portal that allows access to your GW email, Blackboard and other services. Your NetID will also allow you to register for classes.

Register for Classes

Once you have set up your GWid and NetID, you can begin to register for classes.

  1. You need to know the Course Registration Numbers (CRNs) for classes you wish to take, which are listed by the Office of the Registrar and listed by semester.

    1. Click on the appropriate campus — either Virginia Campus, if you are attending classes at VSTC, or Off Campus, if you are an online student.

    2. Select Nursing to view the listing of available courses that semester. The CRN is the five-digit number in the second column of that listing.

  2. Now that you have the CRNs for the courses you wish to take, go to GWeb.

    1. You will be asked to log in using your GWid and PIN. (If you haven't yet claimed these, see the instructions under Claim Your GWid.)

    2. Click Student Records and Registration.

    3. Click Registration Menu.

    4. Click Register, Drop or Add Classes.

    5. Select the appropriate term and click Submit Term.

    6. Enter the CRN of the courses in which you wish to enroll.

Many online courses include real-time webinar sessions using Blackboard's Collaborate tool. As an online learner, you need a high-speed internet connection and a computer equipped with a microphone, speakers and webcam. Review instructions for new users to make sure your computer system is properly configured and you have the skills you need to participate effectively in these sessions.
