State Authorizations

The George Washington University, on behalf of its School of Nursing (GW Nursing), is subject to state authorization requirements in order to offer an approved nursing curriculum. The state authorization rules are always subject to change per each state's nurse licensing board. GW Nursing provides the following information to inform applicants of its restrictions in certain states.

Alabama / Louisiana

Currently, GW Nursing is unable to accept applicants OR offer clinical assignments for its online programs from these states. Prospective students from these states are welcome to apply to our bachelor of science in nursing program located on our Virginia Science and Technology Campus.

New York

Currently, GW Nursing is restricted in the number of clinical placements it is able to offer in New York. All applicants seeking to request clinical placements in New York should contact our admissions team at [email protected] prior to applying.

Arkansas, California, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Wisconsin

Listed as a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) State but either no response yet from the State Board of Nursing regarding specific requirements or requires application for approval. Please contact our admissions team at [email protected] if you have any questions.
