The GW Nursing Office of Research sat down with Christine Pintz, Ph.D., RN, FNP-BC, FAAN, ACC, FAANP, the interim Associate Dean of Research and Professor at the GW School of Nursing, to learn more about her and her work at GW.
Hometown
I am from Cleveland, Ohio.
Educational Background
I obtained my BSN from Ursuline College. I have an MSN from the University of Pennsylvania in the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner track. I received a post-Master’s certificate from Catholic University as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I received my PhD from the University of Maryland.
How I Got Interested In Research
After working as a nurse and NP for over 13 years, I began to work as a research associate at GW in the Women’s Health Initiative Clinical Trial in 1998, which sparked my interest in research. I also became the coordinator of the FNP program soon after that, and I went on to develop and direct
the DNP program. Later, I became the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.
Current Work
My research focuses on the impact of technology-enhanced education on nurse practitioner students. I have received funding from HRSA, RWJF, ANF, NCSBN, and NIH. I have been working on an educational instrument that measures competency in person-centered care in nurse practitioner students. This instrument is based on another instrument I developed called the Diagnostic Reasoning Assessment. I have funding through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to conduct a study entitled Assessing Nurse Practitioner Competency across Clinical and Virtual Simulation Settings. It is a multi-site study comparing clinical, virtual, and self-assessment with primary care NP students.
