Center for Aging, Health and Humanities
The George Washington University’s Center for Aging, Health and Humanities hosted an Age-Friendly Ecosystem Summit May 4-5, 2021. In partnership with Age-Friendly DC, Montgomery County, Hyattsville, Arlington and Alexandria, this inaugural, live, virtual summit convened regional leaders and other multisector parties who are interested in advancing age-friendly initiatives.
The genesis of the summit derives from national work to advance an Age-Friendly Ecosystem; led by the John A. Hartford Foundation, the World Health Organization, AARP, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Trust for America’s Health, among others. The goal is for the Age-Friendly Ecosystem Summit to become an annual event to bring multisector regional partners together within and outside of the field of aging; creating opportunities for these partners to work together to create livable communities for people of all ages to live, work, and play.
All of the live Summit materials were recorded and are now available for purchase using the link below.
Registered participants were advised to listen to pre-recorded podcasts on a variety of topics related to age-friendly initiatives prior to the live summit. These podcasts have been recorded with national leaders in the age-friendly space and topics include an overview of the Age-Friendly Ecosystem, as well as Age-Friendly: Health Systems, Public Health, Arts & Creativity, Businesses, and Universities.
May 4: Regional leaders presented in 15- to 20-minute LIVE “TED Talks” to share regional best practices, frameworks, and/or resources to advance an age-friendly ecosystem.
May 5: Local municipality leaders (Age-Friendly DC, Montgomery County, Hyattsville, Arlington and Alexandria) shared best practices and exemplary case studies of age-friendly initiatives.
