Conway Transitioning Warriors Scholars Initiative

The William and Joanne Conway Transitioning Warrior Nursing Scholars Initiative awards up to ten incoming Veterans to BSN (VBSN) students each semester. Selected recipients receive funding covering up to one-third of tuition, applied directly to their student account each semester. Your admissions essays will be reviewed for evidence of the type of leadership, perseverance, and character that is consistent with the Conway Initiative.

How to Apply:

Students are automatically considered based on their Statement of Purpose, which is submitted as part of their admissions application.  Students who apply by and have their FAFSA completed by the final application deadline will be considered. Each term, a specific number of students are selected for this scholarship.

The committee will review scholarship applications for evidence of the type of leadership, perseverance, and character that is consistent with the Conway Initiative. Students are encouraged to write about their military experience in relation to leadership, perseverance, and character, and how it has shaped them into who they are today, by following the prompt provided.

The committee will carefully review the applicant's financial need, essay, letters of recommendation, and prerequisite GPA.

Rubric:

The committee will look at the following aspects of the applicant: Financial Need, GPA, Essay, and Letters of Recommendation. The applicants with the highest points will be selected for the scholarship after the committee reviews, meets, and discusses the candidates. The Senior Financial Aid Officer will deliver the scholarship award to the applicant and conduct needed follow-up.

FAQs:

Are current students eligible to apply for this award?

No. This award was intended to increase the number of new veteran students who would be able to attend GW Nursing. Therefore, previously admitted and enrolled students are not eligible.

Do I have to complete a FAFSA to apply?

Yes! The Conway Nursing Scholarship takes many factors into consideration, and financial need is one of them. You must complete a FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship.

Do I have to be enrolled full-time?

Yes, recipients are expected to be enrolled full-time throughout the award period.

Am I able to receive a scholarship if I also receive GI Bill benefits?

You can receive aid in addition to your GI Bill benefits. Students are encouraged to apply for various forms of student financial aid, including scholarships, to help offset the cost of education, because federal and state veterans' benefits sometimes do not cover the entire cost of a college education.

Am I able to participate in Washington Squared or GW Scholars and also receive the Conway Scholarship?

Yes! Students can receive both scholarships as long as they apply for each and are selected for both.
