GW Nursing Dean Pamela Jeffries is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Janice J. Hoffman as professor and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Hoffman, PhD, RN, ANEF, joins GW Nursing from the University of Missouri where she was associate dean for academic affairs. With over 38 years of nursing experience, she has taught in baccalaureate, graduate, associate and diploma nursing programs, as well as serving in staff development positions in acute care and military facilities. An experienced academic administrator, she has also held positions as the assistant dean of the BSN program and the vice chair of Organizational Systems and Adult Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Dr. Hoffman’s areas of expertise include academic acute care nursing, new graduate transition, preceptor development and clinical decision making. Her work related to New Graduate Nurse Transition included serving as the director for the design and implementation of The Johns Hopkins Hospital’s SPRING Program, as well as the implementation of a residency program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Hoffman was selected to serve on the panel that developed the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program and has served on the Advisory Boards for several acute care hospitals’ Nurse Residency Programs.
Dr. Hoffman was recently awarded the 2017 Capstone International Book Award by STTI for her book, Medical-Surgical Nursing – Making Connections to Practice.
She holds a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a master of science in nursing education from California State University, Fresno, and a PhD in nursing from the University of Maryland. Dr. Hoffman is also a retired United States Navy Nurse Corps Captain.
