GW School of Nursing proudly celebrates alumna Dr. Julie Wayne Gibbons on the publication of her dissertation research in The Journal of School Nursing.

The article, "School Nurse Well-Being as a Workplace-Embedded Outcome: A Collective Qualitative Case Study," examines how organizational and workplace factors influence the psychological well-being of school nurses. The study highlights the importance of team membership, professional recognition, role clarity, workplace flexibility, and meaningful relationships with students in promoting well-being and workforce sustainability.

The publication represents an important milestone in Dr. Gibbons' scholarly journey, transforming her doctoral dissertation into a peer-reviewed contribution to the nursing literature. Dr. Gibbons completed her doctoral dissertation requirements and graduated from the George Washington University School of Nursing in 2025. The article was co-authored by Dr. Olga Acosta-Price, Professor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health and director of the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health; Dr. Erin D. Maughn, Associate Professor at George Mason University School of Nursing; and Dr. Sherrie Flynt Wallington, Professor at the George Washington University School of Nursing and Chair of Dr. Gibbons' dissertation committee.

Dr. Gibbons currently serves in a tenure-track faculty position in the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she continues to advance research, teaching, and service focused on improving the health and well-being of children, families, and communities.

We congratulate Dr. Gibbons on this significant achievement and look forward to her continued contributions to nursing science, education, and school health.
