Drs. Sandra Davis and Pamela Slaven-Lee are among the 62 nurse practitioner (NP) leaders inducted as Fellows in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in June 2019. The new AANP fellows will continue the tradition of impacting national and global health through their outstanding contributions.
Dr. Davis serves as GW Nursing’s assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion. Previously, she was the director of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program before stepping down to focus on diversity initiatives. Dr. Davis began her career in podiatry, where she spent years in private practice before transitioning to a career in nursing. She has been in academia for the over 16 years serving in both faculty and administrative roles. She currently teaches in the MSN program and her research focuses on health care disparities, social determinants of health and simulation in nursing. In 2016, Dr. Davis was selected as an AACN/Wharton Executive Leadership Fellow.
Dr. Slaven-Lee is currently serving as interim senior associate dean for academic affairs and assistant dean for the MSN program. She is a Sigma Thera Tau Leadership Academy scholar. Her principal areas of practice include leadership, administration, family practice, internal medicine, pathology, gastroenterology, hepatology and simulation-based learning. Dr. Slaven-Lee is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), providing curricular support, leadership, and coordination of on-campus simulation-based learning events.
The new Fellows will be officially inducted Thursday, June 20, during the 2019 AANP National Conference at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
The FAANP program was established in 2000 to recognize NP leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education or policy. Fellows of AANP are visionaries and, as such, hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of NPs and health care. The new Fellows will continue to demonstrate leadership and contribute to the mission of AANP.
