State Authorizations for Distance Students

The George Washington University, on behalf of its School of Nursing (GW Nursing), is subject to state authorization requirements in order to offer an approved online nursing curriculum. The state authorization rules are always subject to change per each state's nurse licensing board. GW Nursing provides the following information to inform applicants of its restrictions in certain states. Alabama / Louisiana / Mississippi / New York / North Dakota / Wisconsin

• Currently, GW Nursing is unable to accept applicants from AL, LA, MS, ND, and WI for online programs due to clinical placement restrictions.
• GW Nursing will accept applicants from NY for online programs if the student verifies their willingness to complete the clinical portion of the program in another state.

Arizona

• Currently, GW Nursing is unable to accept applicants from AZ for the following programs:
  • MSN Nursing Leadership and Management
  • MSN/MPH Nursing Leadership and Management and MPH@GW
  • DNP: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • DNP: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
  • DNP: Family Nurse Practitioner
  • DNP: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • DNP: Executive Leadership
  • DNP: Nursing Practice
  • DNP: Health Policy

Maryland

• Currently, GW Nursing is unable to accept applicants from MD for the following programs:
  • DNP: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
  • DNP: Family Nurse Practitioner
  • DNP: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Tennessee / Utah

• Currently, GW Nursing is unable to accept applicants from TN or UT for the following programs:
  • Post Master’s Certificate: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Post Master’s Certificate: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Post Master’s Certificate: Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Post Master’s Certificate: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Washington

• Currently, GW Nursing is unable to accept applicants from WA for the following programs:
