Dr. Mercedes Echevarria, DNP, APRN, CPHQ, CDCES, CNE is an Associate Professor at the George Washington University School of Nursing. A bilingual Spanish-speaking clinician and educator, she holds board certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She is also nationally certified as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).

Dr. Echevarria’s research and clinical interests center on improving health outcomes, with a focus on the pediatric population, childhood developmental surveillance and screening, childhood obesity, and advanced nursing practice. She maintains an active clinical role as an Advanced Practice Nurse at a Federally Qualified Health Center, providing culturally responsive care to diverse patient populations.

Her DNP scholarly project, Health Promotion in School-Aged Hispanic Children through a Culturally Competent Nutrition and Exercise Family-School Program, reflects her commitment to community-based interventions. This program demonstrated measurable improvements in caregiver nutrition and physical activity, weight reduction, child BMI, and blood pressure outcomes.

Dr. Echevarria is a fellow of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Wharton Executive Leadership Program and AACN’s Leadership for Academic Nursing Program and has served in national leadership roles, including as a Board Member at Large for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and as a member of the Rutgers Health Group.
