Kate Malliarakis

Dr. Kate Malliarakis is President of KAM Associates, a healthcare consulting company where she practices as a legal nurse consultant, nurse practitioner, and substance use disorder counselor. She is Associate Professor Emerita at the George Washington University School of Nursing where she was founding faculty for the SON and Chair of the Policy, Populations, & Systems Community. She was the Project Director for the GWU SON Leadership Training Projects with the UnitedHealth Group Center for Clinician Advancement and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Malliarakis' clinical interest is in substance use disorders, with a special expertise in treating health professionals with substance use disorders. She is currently Chair of the District of Columbia Board of Nursing Committee on Impaired Nurses (COIN). Dr. Malliarakis was formerly the Chief, Specific Drugs Branch in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in Washington, DC where she served under two Administrations. Dr. Malliarakis is an alumna of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program. In 2022, Dr. Malliarakis was selected for the AANP State Award for Excellence for the District of Columbia for her work with the COIN Program. In 2014, Dr. Malliarakis was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. She is licensed and certified as an adult primary care nurse practitioner (ANP-BC), a certified substance abuse counselor in Virginia and the District of Columbia, and master addictions counselor (MAC).
