What inspired you to become an academic advisor?
As my youngest daughter moved through an accelerated program at a university out of state, I was so grateful for the staff that was there to guide her. Every person she met with was supportive, encouraging, and genuinely invested in her success. They didn’t just do their jobs, they celebrated her milestones with us and guided her with real care. Seeing how powerful that kind of support can be inspired me to become an academic advisor and to be that person for someone else—someone who helps open doors, eases worries, and cheers just as loudly when a student reaches their goals.

What advice do you find yourself giving most often?
I find that I often have to remind students that they are far more capable than they think, especially when life is pulling them in so many directions. When they’re in the middle of a difficult time or experiencing setbacks, it’s easy for them to forget their own strength. I love being able to help them step back, look at the situation objectively, and recognize that they already have the tools to make it through—and that this, too, will pass.

What’s one fun fact about you that students might not guess?
I secretly would love my own HGTV show! My husband and I are avid DIYers and I love designing spaces, tackling new projects and breaking out the power tools!
