Richard Ricciardi Engages Korean Health Delegation in Policy Discussions

Ric Ricciardi meets with Korean delegates

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, Professor Richard Ricciardi, Ph.D., CRNP, FAANP, FAAN, executive director of GW Nursing's Center for Health Policy and Media Engagement, met with a delegation of three Korean government leaders to discuss new policies that the Ministry of Health and Welfare can implement to empower nurses in transforming the health care system and improve health care quality, efficiency and effectiveness.

The meeting was facilitated by Jangho Yoon, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., associate professor, Department of Preventive Medicine & Biostatistics, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and took place at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland.

The three delegates, Na-geum Yoe, Ph.D.Hyunwoong Shin, Ph.D. and Jane Lee, Ph.D., were members of the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA). KIHASA's aim is to develop comprehensive policy frameworks and measures geared toward creating a health and welfare system that responsively and proactively addresses people's needs, while at the same time creating social utility and economic vibrancy. KIHASA also supports and administers a number of government-initiated committees, fulfilling its role of think tank in the field of national health and welfare.
