What research are you working on now?
I received funding to gather preliminary data on Developing HIV/AIDS Nursing Care Linkages for People Living with HIV in Nursing Homes Utilizing the Nursing Interventions Classification and Nursing Outcomes Classification according to the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association: A Mixed-Methods Approach. These studies included an exploration of the experiences of nurses who provide care for older people living with HIV, as well as an investigation into the experiences of nursing care from the perspectives of older people living with HIV. I also led a validation study of standardized nursing languages for PLWH over 50, focusing on the relevance of NANDA-I diagnoses, NIC interventions, and NOC outcomes, developing NNN linkages. For example, Risk for Excessive Loneliness–Loneliness Severity–Emotional Support for PLWH over 50, creating a structured framework to support clinical decision-making tailored to the needs of this aging population.
Why is this work important?
By involving AIDS/HIV nursing using a mixed-method design, we will foster a holistic approach to care that addresses not only the physical needs but also the psychosocial and emotional well-being of PLWH. Through this innovative approach, we anticipate significant advancements in HIV/AIDS nursing care.
What are the potential policy implications of your work?
The research findings from this study will be used to propose appropriate nurses’ role both in community settings and nursing homes and develop Clinical Decision Support Systems that may be indicated for patients with HIV in nursing homes, reflecting NH characteristics and market characteristics for nurse staffing to take care of PLWH in NHs. With the continuous collaboration with DC CFAR Scientific Working Groups in ending the HIV epidemic, the research team will rigorously apply NIH-Funded HIV studies to accomplish optimal quality of care for PLWH in NHs. With the continuous collaboration with DC CFAR Scientific Working Groups in ending the HIV epidemic, the research team will rigorously apply AHRQ-Funded HIV studies to accomplish optimal quality of care for PLWH in NHs.
