Since 2018, GW Nursing has welcomed hundreds of high school scholars each summer from across the world to the Virginia Science and Technology Campus for an integrative, hands-on medicine and health science learning program designed for high school students looking to enter health sciences to expand their leadership abilities, discover their passion for a future career path, and realize their potential in nursing and medicine. Students learn the public and individual health contexts for disease transmission and vaccines, mental health, poverty, and vital signs, participate in simulations (e.g., childbirth), and standardized patient encounters with live actors. The program, led by GW Nursing faculty, provides scholars with valuable perspectives and insights on various healthcare professions. The Envision program provides an extraordinary opportunity to engage the community and jumpstart the journey of future healthcare professionals. The GW Nursing sponsoring group, the Office of Community Engagement’s Ventures, Initiatives, and Partnerships (VIP) group, would like to thank its partners at Envision, the faculty and students who participated, and the Simulation and Innovation Learning Center for another successful summer program.
