On the Rise in U.S. News & World Report

GW Nursing is trending upward—again—in the annual U.S. News & World Report college rankings. Since 2016, the school’s rank in nursing master’s programs has jumped from No. 58 to No. 29. 

The online nursing programs rose from No. 13 to tie for No. 5 while the veterans’ online graduate programs ranked No. 3.  In the DNP rankings, first compiled in 2017, GW Nursing moved from No. 30 to No. 26. 

“It is gratifying to see our hard work reflected in these new rankings,” said Dean Pamela Jeffries.  “The efforts of our faculty and staff, the improved quality of our programs and the excellence of our students and alumni have propelled the climb in all our rankings.  We’ve all worked together to position our school—in the eight years since we opened—among the top tiers of nursing schools nationwide.” 

Accredited schools of nursing with master’s, DNP and online graduate programs were surveyed to compile the four rankings of nursing school programs. U.S. News & World Report’s methodology ranks programs using a weighted measurement of five categories that include faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, student engagement, admissions selectivity and peer assessment.

Among the 552 schools surveyed for the nursing master’s and DNP programs, 296 provided sufficient data to be included in the nursing master’s programs and 203 in the DNP programs.  Thirty-percent of schools indicated they offered online graduate programs and U.S. News ranked 159 programs.
