Rear Admiral Robert J. Hawkins Announced as Keynote Speaker for GW Nursing’s 2025 Graduation Ceremony

The George Washington University (GW) School of Nursing is honored to announce Rear Admiral Robert J. Hawkins as the keynote speaker for its 2025 graduation celebration

The George Washington University (GW) School of Nursing is honored to announce Rear Admiral Robert J. Hawkins as the keynote speaker for its 2025 graduation celebration, taking place on May 16, 2025, at Lisner Auditorium on the Foggy Bottom campus. Rear Admiral Hawkins, a distinguished leader in military nursing and public health, brings a wealth of experience and insight to this momentous occasion.

Rear Admiral Hawkins, a native of Liverpool, New York, has dedicated over four decades to service in the United States Navy. Beginning his career as a nuclear-trained submariner, he later transitioned into nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina before being commissioned as an Ensign in 1993. His academic accomplishments include multiple advanced degrees in business, nursing, defense studies, and public health from prestigious institutions such as Georgetown University, Rush University, and the Navy War College.

Hawkins has served in critical operational roles, including wartime deployments as a nurse anesthetist aboard multiple naval vessels. His leadership extends across numerous high-profile positions, including Director of the Navy Nurse Corps, Commander of the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center, and Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program at the Uniformed Services University. His extensive service record is decorated with numerous military honors, including the Legion of Merit and Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
