How I Got Interested In Research
What originally got me interested in research is the opportunity to enhance knowledge and practice in the nursing profession. Earlier in my career I did a few projects, including an IRB-approved study focusing on improving hand-off communication using the SBAR method (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation). My DNP project was a research study looking at the interrater reliability of an elopement risk tool for acute care hospitals.
Current Work
I am now working on a mentored pilot study with Drs. Cathi Cox and Michelle Rumble to help bridge the gap in nursing knowledge about men in the nursing profession. There is little to no published research that discusses the career paths of men entering the nursing profession, so I'm currently conducting the interviews for this intramural grant funded, qualitative research study that is exploring the factors that impact the career paths of men entering the nursing profession.
Fun Facts
The practice of nursing has always been a passion for me. Growing up, when a neighbor had an African grey parrot that was sick and needed antibiotic injections twice a day for two weeks, I gave the injections. ...The parrot survived!
