Student Life

We aim to provide the best environment and education for our nation’s future health care leaders and innovators. You’ll find that student life at the George Washington University School of Nursing is full of opportunities to meet our mission of improving the quality of health care across the globe.

Global Health Care Policy and Research

Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, GW Nursing is the premier school of nursing for health policy. Our faculty, staff, alumni and students are active participants in leading positive change through policy issue panels, committee service, special projects, and research.

Medical Missions and Health Care Initiatives

Each year, faculty and students travel across the globe to help provide health care and education in underserved areas. Participants immerse themselves in the culture of the communities they serve and are awarded memorable, worthwhile experiences.

Student Nurses’ Association and Other Student Organizations

The Student Nurses’ Association mission is to increase the quality of health care and create leaders in the industry. And with over 450 registered student organizations, students are sure to find communities that engage and inspire them.

Leadership Programs, Networking and Community Service

GW’s Center for Student Engagement offers leadership development through specialized programs, courses, and service initiatives. At GW Nursing, students are also encouraged to join Sigma Theta Tau, the honor society, and participate in community service programs. One of the most popular community service programs is Camp Dogwood, where volunteers provide care and health education to underprivileged campers.

Resources for Successful Online Learning

While it has many benefits, such as flexibility, online learning can be a challenge. At GW Nursing, we have compiled online resources and tools to help ensure our students are successful in all environments. You’ll also find an extremely supportive community of peers, faculty and staff to help you along the way.
