Led by the GW School of Nursing’s Essentials Curricular Task Force, chaired by Vice Dean Majeda El-Banna, Ph.D., RN, CNE, ANEF, and Associate Professor Karen Kesten, D.N.P., APRN, CCNS, CNE, FAAN, 48 faculty mapped 68 courses to the 2021 AACN Essentials, which establish educational standards for curriculum content and expected competencies for graduates of baccalaureate, master’s, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs.

The mapping was facilitated by Director of Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation Patsy Deyo, Ph.D., and Assistant Dean for Online Learning and Instructional Technology Miro Liwosz. It spans 10 domains, 45 competencies, and hundreds of sub-competencies. This exercise is crucial for updating our curriculum, preparing for accreditation, and embracing competency-based education.

"Through this paradigm shift, we aim to graduate practice-ready students across all levels of nursing education. Our progress signifies a commitment to excellence in nursing education at the GW School of Nursing."
